The Product We Can't Keep on the Shelf

If there's one Oribe product that sells itself, it's Gold Lust Nourishing Hair Oil. We apply it during almost every service. Clients feel their hair, ask what we used, and leave with a bottle. It happens so often that we've stopped being surprised by it.

This oil is special. Not "marketing special" but genuinely, noticeably different from every other hair oil on the market. Let's talk about why.

What Makes Gold Lust Hair Oil Different

Most hair oils do one thing: they add shine. Some do it well, some leave you looking greasy. But the Gold Lust oil goes beyond shine. It nourishes, protects, smooths, and conditions all at once. The formula is a blend of natural oils including jasmine, argan, and borage seed that absorb into the hair rather than just sitting on top of it.

That absorption is key. When you apply this oil, it doesn't leave a slick, oily film on your hands or your hair. It sinks in. Your hair feels soft and hydrated, not coated. That's a huge difference from most drugstore oils that rely on dimethicone to create a temporary shine that washes out and does nothing for your hair's actual health.

How Much to Use

This is where most people go wrong with hair oil. More is not better. Here's what we recommend:

  • Fine hair: One pump. Seriously, that's it. Rub it between your palms and scrunch it through your ends.
  • Medium hair: One to two pumps, applied from mid-shaft to ends.
  • Thick or coarse hair: Two to three pumps, and you can work it closer to your roots if needed.

Start with less than you think you need. You can always add more, but you can't take it away once it's in your hair. If your hair feels heavy or looks greasy, you used too much.

Wet Hair vs. Dry Hair: When to Apply

Both. But differently.

On Wet Hair (Before Styling)

Applying Gold Lust oil to damp hair is our go-to method in the salon. After towel drying, we work one to two pumps through the mid-lengths and ends before blow drying. This does three things:

  1. Adds heat protection during the blowout
  2. Reduces drying time (the oil helps water evaporate more evenly)
  3. Creates a smooth, frizz-free finish that lasts

On Dry Hair (As a Finisher)

After styling, take half a pump, warm it in your palms, and lightly smooth over your finished style. This adds instant shine and tames any flyaways. It's the finishing touch that makes your blowout look salon-quality.

You can also use it as a next-day refresher. If your hair is looking a little dull or dry on day two, a tiny amount of this oil brings it right back to life.

What We Use It For in the Salon

Honestly, everything. We use it during blowouts. We add it to extension installs to keep the bonds smooth. We apply it after color services to restore shine. We use it on curly hair to define and add luster. It's genuinely the most versatile product in our kit.

During Natural Beaded Row extension installations, we apply a small amount to the wefts before blending. It helps the extensions integrate seamlessly with the natural hair and gives the final result that "your hair just looks amazing" effect rather than an obvious extension look.

Does It Work on All Hair Types?

Yes, with the caveat that you adjust your amount. Fine hair needs barely any. Thick, coarse hair can handle more. Curly hair loves it for definition and frizz control. Straight hair benefits from the smoothing and shine.

The only hair type where we'd say "proceed with caution" is very oily hair that tends to get greasy fast. In that case, keep it to your ends only and use the smallest amount possible.

The Scent Factor

We'd be lying if we didn't mention the scent. The Gold Lust fragrance is warm, sophisticated, and lingers beautifully. Multiple clients have told us they've received compliments on how their hair smells hours after applying it. It's subtle enough for daily use but luxurious enough to feel special.

How Long Does a Bottle Last?

Longer than you'd think. Because you use so little per application, even daily users report getting 3 to 4 months from a single bottle. That's solid value for a product at this price point, especially when you consider that it replaces your shine spray, your frizz serum, and your finishing oil all in one bottle.

The Bottom Line

There's a reason Gold Lust Nourishing Hair Oil is our most-recommended product. It works. It works on everyone. And it makes an immediate, visible difference that clients can see and feel from the first application.

If you only buy one Oribe product, make it this one.
