Where can I get color correction in Alamo, CA?

You paid for a color and walked out with something else. Too warm, too flat, patchy at the roots, or a full shade off from the photo you handed over. Color correction is how we fix that. At our Alamo studio it starts with a plan, not a bleach bowl.

Kinsley + Mane has been in Alamo Plaza since 2012. We see clients from Danville, Walnut Creek, Lafayette and Moraga who have already tried once or twice somewhere else. Book your appointment for a consultation. We will tell you what is fixable, how many visits it takes, and what your hair can safely handle.

Who can fix my color in Alamo?

Kinsley + Mane Hair and Extension Lounge does color correction at 225 Alamo Plaza in Alamo. We fix color that came out too dark, too orange, patchy, or nothing like your photo. Every correction starts with a consultation about your hair history. We tell you plainly whether it takes one visit or several, and we only take on work your hair can safely handle.

We tell you the truth before we mix anything. Ashley Pollard has 18+ years behind the chair, and our rule is simple. We will not push a service that does not fit your hair. If lifting more would put your hair at risk, we say so in the consult. Not after you have paid.

We care about the exact tone. Clients who need a fix usually are not asking for a new look. They want the shade they asked for the first time. One of our clients put it this way in a Google review: "After moving from Nashville I tried two other hair stylists that could not get my color right. Finally found Ashley and her team and it’s perfect every time." You can see how our color holds up on our Instagram.

Color and extensions stay with one specialist. If you wear extensions from us, the same person plans your color and your extension hair in the same appointment. Nothing gets guessed between two chairs. That matters when a correction has to blend roots, lengths and added hair into one tone.

What happens at a color correction appointment?

A color correction appointment is a long one, because the work is done in stages, not in a single pass. We quote the time at your consultation, since it depends on how much color is already on your hair. Here is how it runs:

  1. Consultation. Bring a photo of the shade you want and a photo of what you have now. Tell us every box dye, gloss and product you have used. Tell us how much sun you get, too. In our experience, East Bay summer sun pushes an over-lifted blonde even warmer, so we plan the tone around it.
  2. The plan. We map where the color sits, where it is too dark or too warm, and how much your hair can take. You hear the plan, and the number of visits, before we start.
  3. The color work. We lighten, tone or deepen only where needed. Between lightening passes, we rinse a test section, check the shade and stretch a few strands to see how they hold. If they start to give, we stop. Brass is leftover warmth, and more lightener only takes more out of your hair. A gloss deposits the opposite tone instead, which cancels the brass and evens everything out. When hair needs more than one round of lightening, we space the visits weeks apart so it stays strong.
  4. Checkout. You leave with a home care plan and a date for your next visit.

If you want to know what a first visit with us feels like, read what to expect at Kinsley + Mane. We are open Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, 9 am to 7 pm. When you are ready, book your consultation.

Who this works for, and who should wait

Color correction works for hair that still holds together when wet. Clients coming to us from other salons tend to arrive with one of four problems. Box dye buildup. Banded or patchy balayage. Brassy blonde. Dark color they want to soften.

Each one comes apart differently. Box dye stacks up darkest on the ends, because every round gets pulled through the lengths again. We lift those lengths gently, in sections, and leave the newer root alone. Banded balayage is a different problem: a hard line where one session stopped and the next began. There we work right at the band, softening it into the color above and below so it grows out clean.

It is not a fit when your hair is stretching or snapping. In that case we recommend rest and conditioning first, even if that means waiting. A fix that breaks your hair is not a fix.

We are an authorized Oribe salon, so we can match your home care to your hair. Once your color is right, keeping it right is easier. Our post on dimensional color in Alamo explains how we build tone and depth from there. Ashley also takes clients in Bend, Oregon, two weeks each month: see our Bend page.

What determines the cost of color correction?

Your consultation sets the exact quote, because no two corrections are the same. The price follows how much color is on your hair, how many visits it needs, and your hair's length and density. A quick tone fix and a multi-visit box dye removal are not the same job. See current pricing on our service menu, then book a consultation and we will quote your plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you fix color from a box dye? Yes, in most cases. How far we can go depends on how many rounds are on your hair, so we look at it in the consult before promising a shade.

Can you fix banded or patchy balayage? Yes. We soften the hard line so your color grows out the way it should have the first time. If it needs more than one visit, you hear that at the consult.

How many visits does a color correction take? It depends on what is on your hair: some corrections take one visit and some take several. You hear which at your consultation, before we start any color.

Will correcting my color damage my hair? No, not past what it can handle. Any lightening changes hair, so if yours cannot take another round, we say so and suggest rest and conditioning first.

Can I bring an inspiration photo? Yes, please do. Bring one of the shade you want and one of your hair as it is now. We will tell you whether the shade is reachable.

I live in Danville or Walnut Creek. Is the drive worth it? Yes, for a correction we think so. You get one specialist, a clear plan and one studio at 225 Alamo Plaza, Alamo, CA 94507. It is a short drive from both.
