Where Can I Get Highlights in Alamo, CA?
If your blonde stops short of your part, you notice it every time you look in the mirror. That gap usually comes from where the foils were placed, not how many you got. At Kinsley + Mane in Alamo, we map highlights to your part and your face before we mix any lightener, so the brightness lands where people see it first. When you're ready, start with a highlights consultation and we'll take it from there.
Highlights are a good fit if you want blonde brought right up to the part, brighter pieces around your face, or a softer way to blend gray. They aren't for everyone. If your hair needs time before it can take lightener, or balayage would give you the look with less upkeep, we'll tell you that in the consultation. We would rather you love your hair than leave with a service it can't hold.
Who does highlights in Alamo?
Kinsley + Mane Hair and Extension Lounge in Alamo Plaza does highlights, and every visit starts with a real consultation. We look at your part, your tone, and your hair history. Then we decide whether foils, balayage, or a mix will get you the blonde you want. Clients come to us from Danville, Walnut Creek, and Lafayette, and we've been doing color in Alamo since 2012.
Here's why clients choose us for this work.
We place the foils for your part and your face. Before we section anything, we look at where you part and how your hair falls. With a side part, the brightest pieces go along the part line, and the heavier side of your face frame gets a little extra, because that's where light catches. With a center part, we balance both sides. Two people can ask for the same highlights and leave with two different maps, and that's on purpose.
We care about your exact tone. Blonde isn't one color. Warm, neutral, and cool blondes read differently against different skin, and many of our clients know exactly the shade they want. One client wrote this about Brooklyn Reynolds in a Google review: "The first time she touched up my roots and brought my blonde highlights up to my hairline." Blonde right at the hairline is exactly what foils do well. Another client has trusted Eva Pacheco with her color every month for more than seven years, which says a lot about consistency. You can see how our blondes wear on our Instagram.
Color and extensions can happen in one appointment. If you wear extensions installed with our own method, the same specialist can lighten your natural hair and match it to your extension hair in one sitting. Alicia Gudino on our team specializes in both extensions and color. That way one person plans your blonde from root to ends, instead of two stylists guessing at each other's work.
Highlights or balayage: which one fits your hair?
Highlights fit best when you want brightness right at the root. Balayage fits best when you want color that grows out softly. Here's how we explain the difference in the chair.
- Highlights: We weave thin sections and lift them in foils. That gives you brighter, more defined pieces and blonde that reaches the part line. The trade-off is that your regrowth shows a little sooner, so you'll see us more often.
- Balayage: We paint the lightener on by hand and keep it softer near the root. It looks sun-touched and blended, and it grows out gently, but it won't put bright blonde right at your part.
For most clients, the deciding question is how soon you're okay seeing your root. In our experience, a crisp foil line at the part shows sooner than a soft balayage root. East Bay sun and hard water also pull both warmer between visits, which is why toner matters so much here. Your history counts too. Hair that has been lightened before can grab toner unevenly, so we factor that in before we choose.
Sometimes the right answer is both: brighter pieces at your face and part, with softer painting through the lengths. We work that out together, with your photos in front of us.
What to expect at your highlights appointment
Your appointment starts with a conversation, not a foil. Bring a photo of the blonde you love and one of a tone you don't want, because the second photo tells us just as much. We check your hair history, density, and condition before choosing a lightener. Then we map where the brightness goes: face frame, part, crown, or all over.
A highlights visit runs a few hours, and a partial takes less time than a full head. We check the lift the whole way through. Then we tone to set your exact shade, and you leave with a care plan built around how you wash and style at home.
Not sure how much hair to lighten? Book a consultation and we'll figure it out with you. If you're new to us, our page on what to expect at Kinsley + Mane walks through a first visit, and you can learn more about our Alamo studio.
Pricing
The cost of highlights depends on how much hair we lighten, your length and density, and whether you add a toner or root touch-up. Your consultation sets the exact quote. See current pricing on our service menu.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you bring my highlights all the way to my hairline? Yes, in most cases, and foils are how we do it. We place fine pieces along your part and face frame so the blonde doesn't stop short. If your hairline is fragile or has been lightened a lot, we'll go slower and tell you why.
Are highlights damaging to my hair? Yes, lightener always changes the hair, so its condition matters before we start. We check strength and history in the consultation. If your hair isn't ready, we'll tell you plainly and plan a gentler route.
Can I get highlights if I have extensions? Yes. We lighten your natural hair and match it to your extension hair in the same visit, so the tone reads the same from root to ends. Your move-ups stay on the schedule we set at your install.
Will my blonde turn brassy? Yes, over time, because lightened hair drifts warmer. That's why toner is part of every highlights service. As an authorized Oribe salon, we'll suggest the Oribe care that fits your hair before you leave the chair, and our Healthy Hair Blueprint covers the daily habits.
